2. ABOUT NSSF

The Nepal School Sports Federation (NSSF) is a sole national organization dedicated to the development, promotion, management, and advancement of school sports in Nepal.

NSSF works to establish school sports as the foundation of Nepal’s long-term sporting development, connecting education, physical activity, talent identification, competitive sport, character development, and international exposure.

Through its programs, partnerships, competitions, training initiatives, and international engagements, NSSF creates opportunities for children and young people to participate in sport from the grassroots level through to national and international competition.

NSSF's philosophy extends beyond medals. It recognizes sport as an essential component of holistic education and as a powerful instrument for developing:

MESSAGE FROM THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF YOUTH & SPORTS

The development of sports begins with participation, and participation begins at the school level.

During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nepal School Sports Federation demonstrated innovation by organizing virtual sporting activities that encouraged children and young people to remain physically active while staying at home.

The principles of “Sports for Health” and “Sports for All” are fundamental to building a healthy and active society. These principles must begin with children, schools and communities.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports recognizes the important contribution of school sports to physical health, discipline, education, talent development and youth empowerment and supports initiatives that strengthen opportunities for Nepalese students to participate in sport.

I extend my best wishes to the Nepal School Sports Federation for its continued contribution to the development of school sports and young sporting talent in Nepal.

Sport is one of the most powerful educational tools available to young people. It develops not only physical ability but also resilience, confidence, friendship, discipline, and respect.

The international school sport movement seeks to provide young people with opportunities to compete while learning important values that remain with them throughout life.

The continued engagement of Nepal in international school sport contributes to this global movement by providing Nepalese students with opportunities to compete, interact with young people from other countries, and experience different cultures.

NSSF's active engagement in school sports and international competitions contributes to the development of student-athletes and strengthens the connection between sport, education, and international friendship.

NSSF is committed to developing a national school sports system that reaches from grassroots participation to international excellence.

The Federation's General Assembly elected its executive leadership for a four-year term, with representation from its provincial and district structures.

NSSF has developed a growing presence within both Nepal's national sports system and the international school sports movement.

9. HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT—ISF GYMNASIADE BAHRAIN 2024

A Landmark Moment for Nepalese School Sport

The ISF Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024 became one of the most memorable achievements in Nepal's international school sports journey.

Nepalese student-athletes produced an outstanding performance, particularly in combat sports.

The achievement demonstrated the potential of Nepalese school-age athletes when they are provided with structured preparation, quality coaching and international competition opportunities.

The medal-winning athletes subsequently received recognition and cash awards from the Government of Nepal in accordance with the applicable government decision.

The achievement was also recognized in the National Sports Council Annual Darpan 2081–82, reflecting the growing national importance of school sports.

10. ISF U15 GYMNASIADE 2025

Zlatibor, Serbia

Nepal continued its international school sports journey through participation in the ISF U15 Gymnasiade 2025 in Zlatibor, Serbia.

Nepal's participation in 3x3 basketball demonstrated the Federation's commitment to expanding opportunities beyond individual sports and strengthening Nepal's presence in international team competitions.

The event provided young athletes with valuable experience competing against student-athletes from different countries and sporting systems.

11. ISF U15 WORLD SCHOOL SPORT GAMES 2021

Belgrade, Serbia | 11–19 September 2021

Nepal achieved notable success in Taekwondo Poomsae.

12. ISF WORLD SCHOOL FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2023

Belgrade, Serbia | 8–17 October 2023

Nepal participated in the ISF World School Futsal Championship 2023 and received international recognition for sporting conduct.

FAIR PLAY TEAM AWARD

The award recognized the Nepalese team's commitment to:

The recognition reinforced NSSF's belief that the success of a school team should be measured not only by results but also by character and sporting behavior.

13. ISF WORLD SCHOOLS TAEKWONDO POOMSAE VIRTUAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional sporting activities faced unprecedented disruption.

NSSF contributed to the international school sports response through the ISF World Schools Taekwondo Poomsae Virtual Championship 2020, demonstrating how technology could maintain sporting participation and international connection during challenging circumstances.

The initiative reflected NSSF's commitment to innovation and its ability to contribute to international school sports activities.

14. SOUTH ASIAN YOUTH SCHOOL FUTSAL CUP 2024

NSSF also strengthened Nepal's position as a host of regional school sports events through the South Asian Youth School Futsal Cup 2024.

Hosted at Premier International IB Continuum School, Khumaltar, Lalitpur, the event promoted:

Hosting international events provides Nepalese students with the opportunity to experience international competition on home soil while strengthening Nepal's role in regional school sport.

15. NATIONAL U14 SCHOOL GAMES 2025

The National U14 School Games 2025 represented a major grassroots talent-identification initiative.

Conducted in cooperation with PABSON, N-PABSAN and the Nepal Teachers Federation under the leadership of the National Sports Council, the program was held from 8–12 June 2025.

The selection pathway reached more than 700,000 student-athletes, with 530 finalists from seven provinces competing at the national stage.

The program demonstrated the potential of a structured school competition system to identify young talent from across Nepal.
